parked at a red light next to a crane truck, it was a pretty massive piece of kit to be sharing the road with. It was 16 large wheels on the truck, with a 6 wheeled trailer (you can see in my rear view) behind it. And wide too, fit its lane almost perfectly.

tried to get the perspective in my picture, but I was looking sideways and the wheel was taller than my small car

I used to walk by one of those everyday, kinda forget how big they actually are. And you know your companies policy on using phones while driving

It’s alright, pretty sure every FS I rode with used their phone while driving, even saw the HSE guys using their’s too.

True, those cranes do probably have some of the biggest wheels you’ll see on the road

as an aside. my father’s first real job after getting his degree was maintenance of giant mine trucks (as pictured), he and some friends actually ended up writing some software in the late 70s that revolutionized their maintenance. anyhoo, he kept some ball bearings from their wheels when he quit the job, just as souvenirs. They sat on a shelf for years, me having no idea what they were. Ahuh, then at school we learned how to throw a shotput, and I assumed I’d cracked it, my dad must have collected shotputs. Nope, these giant steel balls that as a kid I could barely hold were just ball bearings.

Yea, it took me a while to get used to the size of everything on those trucks. I think for the first few months on that job I’d have thoughts like, “Holy crap, I’m standing on a turbocharger.” I kept a fuel injector from one of these trucks, it’s 12-18" long and like 3" in diameter.
